Abstract
With the development plans and infrastructure initiatives mostly around the urban centers in the Makassar region, the impacts of urbanization expansion and build-up areas would be on the environment and the natural resources aspects. Thus, environmental management and careful strategic spatial planning in landscape ecological network is crucial when aiming for sustainable development. This paper presents quantitative assessment of development plans by evaluating ecological function for build-up area in the Makassar region, as study case. Spatial analysis of Barrier Effect Index (BEI) and Ecological Connectivity Index (ECI) has been conducted to evaluate the ecological connectivity in the areas. Accordingly, spatial model results revealed that impacts of the connectivity distribution are being the artificial developed plans. It is clearly shows that the development plans gives higher level of the ecological connectivity in protected natural areas
